At ILTCI 2010 (Intercompany Long Term Care Insurance Conference), New Orleans March 14th-17th, Robosoft will present Kompaï for the first time, a robot specifically designed to assist dependent persons at home. This robot can speak, understand what is said to it, find its way around the house and, with just a word, access all internet services. This very first version is called Kompaï R&D, is intended for developers who want to implement their own robotics application for assistance of dependent persons.

Robots are becoming part of people’s everyday social lives – and will increasingly become so. In future years, robots may become caretaking assistants for the elderly, or academic tutors for our children, or medical assistants, day care assistants, or psychological counsellors. Robots may become our co-workers in factories and offices, or maids in our homes. They may become our friends !

About 700 attendees, 50 exhibitors and 40 sessions. Attendees and exhibitors are actors in the long term care business :
insurances, including actuaries, underwriters, claim coordinators, regulators …
. homecare assistance companies (non-medical caregivers and companionships)
. healthcare advisors, whose customers are insurance companies
. suppliers of technological solutions for families and caregivers
. software editors (for insurances)
. …
Robotic Assisted Daily Living like Kompaï was quite a new concept for most of visitors, and the majority of them was quite impressed by the robot and its functionalities. More than 100 accepted to contribute to a survey, in which questions such as overall design, economic model and payors were answered.
As a conclusion, this unprecedented presentation to a non-robotic community went very well, and probably helped much to educate the market and deciders. We also gathered very constructive experience and ideas that will be implemented in the next generation of Kompaï.

In the attached file : http://is.gd/byjyw there are the results of the questionnaire that visitors filled at ILTCI 2010. Results are very positive about the robot itself, its capabilities to help dependent persons staying longer and safer at home. Opinions about economic model and sources of financing are also given.
